Closed Doors

Today I am reminded of Philippians 4:6-7
Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all that he has done. Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus."

The Prayer:
Lord,
If it's not your will, let it slip through my grasp and give me peace not to worry about it.

.
..
.

Travis and I have been talking more and more about going home. We even started looking at houses online, talked about what schools we wanted our kids to attend, how far things would be, etc. We so wanted it. Not even a blizzard could scare us away. Ha.

Travis contacted a likely job option for him only to be told that they are not hiring.

Talk about being disappointed. After reading the text from Trav, my eyes filled with tears. Then I remembered that I prayed to God the night before that if God didn't want Trav to have that job, to simply have the door shut. And it was.

On top of that, Travis checked into some other jobs in the area, and they are not hiring at the moment, or they want someone with at least two-year-paid experience. To be honest, the job that he just contacted about that said they weren't hiring had an awesome location next to home, but it wasn't exactly the perfect job. It had no benefits and salary, which means he would be on call a lot and not able to get paid for the extra hours that he would work. So all in all, it wasn't the perfect fit.

As Trav called me on his way home, he brought up a good point: God has not failed us with where he wanted us to go. We ended up in AZ and really loved the weather and so many things to do. He lead us to TN for Trav's school and we were blessed for Trav's great education. Now it will be a new adventure. Or maybe he just wants us to be patient, and He will open a door when He is ready.

Whatever God's reason for closing so many doors, we know he will lead us to the right place. We will find that place and we will still have plenty of time to do it. Travis doesn't graduate until this summer.

God, lead us, and we will follow.

Fur Baby Wish List

Okay, so I might have a small obsession with my fur babies and they may be a tad spoiled. If I could, I would have an animal rescue at our home, but... since Trav isn't really diggin' it, I have to keep dreaming of things we may be able to have for our babies one day.

Dogs:

1.) Outside Dog House:

Although our babies aren't outside dogs, they love to play outside. And this would be awesome because our dogs love to sun bathe.

2.) Dog Pool:

A dog pool may be a little crazy, but this is my wish list, so why not. LOL. Trigger would really enjoy this.

3.) Dog Activated Water Fountain

Instead of a dog bowl, this would be so much easier outside. You can find one here.

4.) Dog Bath

This would be wonderful, especially if we had a mud room! The dogs get so dirty sometimes when they are outside playing that this would be ideal and make it so much easier than having to take them to a bathroom for them to get washed up.

5.) Dog Rooms:

Although Tatum LOVES his crate {we had him learn to go in it since we first got him - he even chooses to go into the crate himself if he wants to lay down or doesn't feel good}, crates aren't pretty looking and doesn't provide dogs with much room. I'd rather put them in rooms like this if we have people over and they are being too much, or if we leave. I doubt they would actually sleep in here at night though (although I guess we could train them). I also think this would be awesome for the cats when we would have to put them away because a guest is allergic to them.

6.) Dog Storage:

Our babies have a lot of things - more than they will ever know. But after seeing this, my eyes grew big, I want it! It would be so nice to have most of their stuff in their own place, rather than scattered all over the house.

7.) Dog Bow Tie

Okay, honestly, how cute are these? {Found here} LOVE them. However, they are $45! (Whhhaaatttt??!! They are too pricey for my liking), but so, so, sooooooooooooo cute!

Cats:
1.) Cat hole

This is going to be a must have in our next home for sure. The dogs are always trying to get into their space. This would give them their own hiding area without having to worry about the pesky dogs.

2.) Cat Playhouse

3.) Fountain

Jax is OBSESSED with water lately! The only water he doesn't like is when he has to take a bath. This may be gross, but he jumps on our bathroom sink just so he can play with any water. Literally he darts as soon as the door starts to open as fast as his little legs will take him. He would LOVE this. I only get scared with these things if they have cords and whatnot.

4.)

Cats love laser toys, or at least my cat does. This would be awesome to have. It would give my indoor cats some exercise.

.
..
.

Okay, so our babies don't really need any of these items, they are just items that momma would like to have maybe one day, but if I don't get them, I will be just as happy :) After all, we don't need these things.

Wanting to be Closer to Home

If going through school wasn't enough and not seeing each other a lot, there is the added stress of trying to find a job. It is still early yet, and we're still a way out before a job-search-crunch is on. Once applications are put out, there is a wait to hear if there is a reply and most importantly an opening; that will be stressful.

We hoped to move back home once we first moved to Tennessee. Then we thought we were insane, and  really wanted to move back to Arizona for the warm weather and all the things to do. After this past year events, we decided that family and friends are more important than warm weather. Most importantly, there is no place like home. We really do miss you, Indiana.

Jan 18, 2015 text message
So Travis really has been trying to get a job closer to home. Many of the places though, want to hire someone who has experience. *Which brings me to 1.) how can you gain experience if no one ever hires you. 2.) Trav has been working the past two years - just didn't actually get paid. We actually paid for him to go to work.*

However, we want to go where God leads us. We try not to worry about the whole situation of finding a job because God will open and close doors that He finds necessary. Please pray that that the right door will present itself for us sooner than later. {And for Trav's classmates as well}

Chicken N' Noodles

My mom-in-law has some pretty awesome recipes. My most favorite is her Chicken N' Noodles recipe!

Recipe from Momma L.

Ingredients:

1 Broasted Chicken {already cooked and ready to eat}
1 pkg Amish Style Noodles
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 large box of chicken broth {1-2 quart}

Directions:

1.) Debone chicken {and keep skin} into large pan. Keep juice from chicken as well and put it in the pan. The juice adds flavor.
2.) In same pan, add broth and bring to boil.
3.) Add cream of chicken soup and 1-2 cups water. Add only enough water to make sure it's not too thick.
4.) Add the noodles. Cook the noodles as directed on the package. Make sure the noodles are fully cooked.

Enjoy! Thanks Momma L! :)

Note: This is usually made with mashed potatoes. If making with potatoes, make sure to keep the potato skin on as well, it makes it oh so yummy!

Starting Prenatal Vitamins & Future Planning

Things got real when the OB recommended that I start taking prenatal vitamins. It's not because I am pregnant, or that we are trying, but since I am not taking any vitamins currently, it should be beneficial just in case anything were to happen.

We will not be trying for a while from now {for my momma and momma-in-law, please take note: a long while, lol}, but it's exciting and nerve wracking to even know that this phase in life is just that much closer. I guess it's also surreal to me that Travis and I are even talking about little ones in the home, about school ratings, car safety features, etc. This is a whole different ball game. Something we don't know anything about, so it's all new to us.

We know we are meant to be parents, through means of having our own or through adoption.

After volunteering in a day care at a church session and falling in love with every single child there, I came home and proceed to tell Travis, "We are just going to need to get a bus for all of our kids."

Without hesitation, "Okay, we can get a bus." {*Squeal with excitement* I.love.this.man!!!!}

I think he knows that once we have one child, my ideal number of kids will likely change, but I really would love to provide homes for children that need a home and most importantly, love. I really believe this is our calling. To be fully honest, I wouldn't mind opening our home to foster kids before we have our own once Travis graduates and once we get settled in.

God has His own timing of how/when/if things will happen so He may surprise us with His timing or have us patiently waiting, but we will trust in His timing.

Project 365 of Happy Days

Day 8: After a day of work, Trav surprised me with hot chocolate. By the time I got my camera out, Trav already drank most of his ;)
Day 9: Little Payson. He has been so extremely loveable. Wanted a cute picture of him sleeping, but he was woken up by the flash.
Day 10: One of my favorite places in our house. Payson apparently is my little model? Ha.
Day 11: We renewed our promise to Christ at our church.
Day 12: The OB recommended that I start taking prenatal vitamins. {No, we are not pregnant or about to try}
Day 13: After a long day of work {Usually when Trav comes home he takes a shower first thing, but today he sat down for just a min and passed out quickly}
Day 14: Thanks to free printables online, I am able to plan Caroline's baby shower. I've never planned anything {besides the wedding}, and although there is so much to do, I am really enjoying it.

P.S. Did you see that the Buckeyes won the National Championship?!!!!!!! Go BUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!! So proud of all of you!

2015 New Years Resolutions

The first sunrise of 2015
There is no doubt that we have so many good things to look forward to this year:

*Making home improvements

*Putting our house on the market
*Trav applying for a job(s)/interview(s)
*Gaitlinburg w/Steve & Janice
*Trav accepting a job offer
*Caroline & Tyler's little one being born
*Libby's wedding
*Trav graduating
*Trav taking his boards
*Lisa's wedding
*Maybe a vacation
*Trav starting a new job
*Buying a new house
*More than likely buying a car
{and who knows what else!}

Wow! That is a lot! I don't know if I'm ready for all this and I'm a bit scared. Maybe more like nervous, but very excited.

Besides big things happening in our life, there are certain things that I am hoping to do. I know, I say these things, but I really want to challenge myself every single day.

2015 New Years Resolutions

*Blog more.
I really enjoy blogging. Blogging to me is basically a diary of our life together. I love that it's all in one place: pictures, thoughts, recipes, etc. One day, I hope our kids read about our lives - and is like, "that is so awesome!" Or, "I remember that! It was so much fun." What a blessing.

*Do a 365 day photo challenge.
Yes, I'm crazy. That is all. Honestly though, I want to capture all of our fun moments of this year. But I am hoping that this will help  improve my photography skills.

*Eat healthier.
This is going to my biggest challenge yet. I never put anything healthy in my body, mostly because I don't like the taste of it. I need the nutrients in my body. My body needs it because they have it has been lacking for 27 years. And although I'm going to need it, my body needs to prepare because we're hoping to maybe try for a baby in maybe another year or two.

*Read the Bible.
I committed myself to the Lord. And one thing I have always wanted to do was read the entire Bible. This is one thing I want to accomplish before we start having kids because I want to their example. I want them to follow with me and read scripture with me. I want them to know that I know the Lord, and hopefully they will want to too.

*Be a better person.
If I ever die sometime soon, I want people to remember me as a good person. A person who helps others, one who was always smiling, and one who makes people feel as they are everything. Love thy neighbors.

Project 365 of Happy Days

Project 365

Day 1: First sunrise of the year
Day 2: Ohio State won the Sugar Bowl! The game was so intense, and my temper has become like Travis'. Stayed up till 2 in the morning to celebrate! {Correction: Travis stayed up till 2 in the morning, ha}
Day 3: Traveling Day back to Tennessee was grossly rainy {until we got closer to home}
Day 4: Thankful to have a friend drop off clothes so I could go through it to see if there was anything that I wanted/needed. I went through my closet as well to add to the clothes pile to donate.  #Payitforward
Day 5: Started my day off right. First meal I actually measured and logged.
Day 6: One of the favorite places in the house is by the fire. Love our small Christmas decoration and don't want to take them down. Trig insists on having his toys next to him {and he got a lot more gifts from friends and family}.
Day 7: Snuggling up with a new book “Revolution: In World Missions" by K.P. Yohannan, on this very cold winter night. {Also enjoying Opi glitter nail polish thanks to momma L)

Our Little Christmas Vacation {Photo Overload}

By the time we left, poor Trav worked a 24 hour shift, got off, drove home, picked us up, and drove most of the way home {which is almost a 9 hour drive}. Trav was exhausted, but he hates being a passenger, so after a short nap, he was back at it. That man amazes me - he has super powers or something!

Dessert Bar: Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve, we met up with some of our favorites while munching on some dessert. To see more photos, click here. {They are some of the best people you will ever meet}

Afterwards, we went to church for a candlelight service. It is such a magical feeling of being in God's house to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Christmas with Mom L.

Christmas Day with Mom and Dad

My parents got Brittany a elliptical. She was soooooo excited that she was dancing around and she wouldn't stop smiling. :)

Christmas Day with my side of the family
I couldn't get enough of sweet Garland.

Went to see Christmas lights on Christmas Day
This is one of my favorite traditions on Christmas. We drive around a neighborhood to see the lights and play Christmas music while driving around. It is truly something that I love to do every year.

Celebrating Christmas with Dad L and Grandma

Sadly, we forgot to take a picture with grandma :(

Trav's mom's family Christmas

Maddie got a baking dish for last year's Christmas gift exchange, which is not a gift that a kid loves {but her mom sure did!}. Maddie didn't want to risk getting another pan this year, so she made prompt changes to have a gift exchange for the kids. Apparently, we didn't get to be involved with the kids classification. Ha.

Trav kept poking me to get Aunt Heidi's gift of some stuff for the grill. So when it was our turn, we were grinches and stole Heidi's gifts. We thought we were okay, until her husband stole Trav's gift.

He was a little sad, but our gift was PRETTY awesome. It was chocolate, a cup, buckeyes inside the cup, and a gift card for Panera and another gift card for Starbucks. Sweet. BTW, we picked his mom's exchange gift :)

Celebrated Trav and Anneke's birthday at Grandma's

Trav's favorite cake is DQ ice cream cake. He requests it every year. This year his mom got it and it was like a mint oreo blizzard cake. It was INCREDIBLE!

Trav's Bday:
My parents, Brit, and Trey joined Travis and I when we went to go up and explore St. Joe, Michigan.

The city was so cute with little shops right next to the water. It was such a cute place that I could totally see us going there to visit more.

Later that night, Trav opened his presents.

Visited my grandma

We were able to visit my Grandma. She doesn't seem to be doing as well and I'm not sure if she even knew who Travis and I were. I was impressed though that she was out of her room {they wheeled her in to watch a movie}. I wouldn't even recognize her if they didn't tell me where she was at. Her hair is so white {which she would be embarrassed when she was younger} and her teeth were missing. And she is so, so skinny. I was able to see her eat, and although she didn't talk much, she was able to tell us how much she loves pears by eating them all and then drinking the juice. She then tapped the cup on the table to make sure she didn't miss any. I laughed because that's something I would do. :)

We also made a new friend at the nursing home as well. She walked up to us as we were visiting, and Trav pulled up a seat and asked her if she wanted to join and how her day was going. Her reply was "not good", but Travis got her to smile and feeling better at the end. She kept telling my grandma, "We better get going," yet when we went to leave, she wouldn't leave our side and tried following us out. A nurse laughed as she saw her with us, gave her a hug, and started to sing, "Stop in the name of love..." It was pretty cute.

Brought in the New Year
This new year it was a pretty sleepy one at mom's house as you can see.

Enjoyed the New Year

First sunrise of the New Year

Got to see Brittany at work
I am really impressed with Macy's. They hired Brittany for holiday help, who has no work experience and a job coach. Brittany LOVES her job. Kate and I went to go see her at work, and there is no doubt in my mind that she is a good little worker, plus she is so cute in that red apron. She works so hard, trying to pick up hours, and comes in whenever they call. I wish they would hire her with a part  time/full time position, but if not, at least it is on her resume that she does have work experience.

Hung out with friends
I love our friends. We are truly blessed to have them in our lives. I don't know what I would do without them. {Sorry, if we didn't take pictures with you}. Friends are the best things in life. I feel so bad that we didn't get pictures with everyone :(

Watched the Ohio State Game
#4 Ohio State was known as the underdog when they played the #1 team: Alabama. However, they showed the country that they are capable of playing them and won the game. We are looking forward to watching the National Champion game. Go Bucks!

The Fur Babies Were Spoiled
First of all Jax is CRAZY!! Before we left, he discovered sink water. He loves getting his paw in it and he splashes around all in it - getting over the mirror, etc. He will seriously stalk you into the bathroom. And apparently, he has been wanting to take showers.

{Creepy!}

Tatum got a new dog bed. He loved it so much, that he barley got off of it. Ha.

Drove Back Home

For most of the drive back home, it was pretty rainy weather until we about reached home. That was not fun.

All play and no work, makes for happy people and furry ones. I hope you enjoyed the holiday season and that you had a wonderful Christmas.
