DIY: St. Paddy's Wreath

(The best part: no glue required)

Because I have been itching to make my own wreath, I finally hauled my butt to Michaels to take a look around.

They had an unbeliveably good deals of buy one get one free. So I ended up spending a whopping $5 on two wreaths.

Then I found a bow that they had $2.99, some green shamrock wire for $5.99, and a little thing of glittery shamrocks for $1.99. I could have gotten the stuff much cheaper but I forgot my darn coupon.

The only thing that was messy was the wreath itself and the green wire kept getting caught on little parts that were sticking out.

I love it :) It's simple, yet fun. And of course, I got up in time before the mom-in-law comes to visit!

Let me know if you make wreaths too, I would love to check 'em out :)

We make cute babies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So the other night, with our new roommate, Scotty, we watched Modern Family. It was too funny and I can't believe we haven't fell in love with the show before. So in the episode the gay couple morphed faces together to see what their baby would look like. What a brilliant idea, right?

So....

To make a long story short, we make cute babies!!!!!!!!!! I would have never thought we would have a blonde baby with blue eyes.

But, on top of that, even though the baby is cute, I'm not sure if it's a boy or a girl. LOL!!!!!!! Oh, well. At least he/she is cute :)

P.S. It's pretty fun - and took less than 10 minutes to do. To start, click here

Losing Weight

The other day a co-worker of mine stopped me to ask, "Have you been losing weight?"
Me (laughing): "Well I did. I lost about ten pounds, but then I stopped working out for a couple of months, so I'm pretty sure I've gained it all back. "
"Your clothes are getting bigger"
"I think it's just because I'm wearing bigger pants today"
(Laughs and asks) "What do you make for dinner?"
"Chicken and salmon are our usual's lately. Same stuff. It's a pretty boring meal."

So I finally went to the gym and decided to get on the scale. I was dreading every second of it because I wanted to know how much I have actually gained.
126.

What? There must be something wrong. I haven't exercised in like forever.
I got in the pool and gave Trav a serious look. "The scale's wrong."
After getting out of the pool, I decided to weigh myself again. This time I was soaking wet (hair and all) and wearing more clothes (I changed into night clothes).

128.

There has to be something wrong. I have been feeling like crud lately. I haven't worked out.

Trav got out of the changing room. "You're going to have to weigh me on the scale when we're on our way out. The scale inside the woman's changing room is wrong. It has to be."

So I got on the scale. Trav did it. It magically read 126.

"I still think something is wrong. I haven't exercised in forever."
"But we've changed our eating habits." Trav reminded me.
I pouted. "I'm a pound away from my goal and don't feel good about my self. My goal was 125. I thought at 125 I'd be so much skinner and I'd be done of having to lose much more weight. I think I still have another 10 more pounds."

You guys, I'm happy that my weight is down, but I seriously feel fatter than when I had my first big weigh out, when I was weighed in at 132. I don't know where my fat just mysteriously disappeared because my legs and arms are still bigger (because I see no difference whatsoever).

I know I should be proud, but I was in almost tears this morning when I tired on clothes and everything looked awful on me. Trav said I was in a mood where no matter what I tried on, I wouldn't be happy with it. True, I guess. It was just one of those days.

I think the reason I don't feel good is not because I haven't noticed a change, but because I haven't felt a change. Working out make you feel soooooo much better and gives you so much more energy and you know that you've worked for it.

Then I found this picture:

That put it in a whole different perspective.

Animal Abuse

I found this article through Valley Dog's website. A little piece of me died that very moment (just like it does whenever you see one of those commericals about animal abuse). I can't believe people would ever do this. I can't even imagine what those dogs went through or any other animal that has been abused.

And, I look at poor Tobs. This pup is the happiest dog alive. He LOVES being around you and gets so excited when he knows you're up. When you're sleeping, he has to be right next to you. We call him our "little love machine" (yes, he loves the nickname to him too!). Who couldn't fall in love with his cute face?

But on the same token, he is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo scared of people that he doesn't know. He hides between our legs and backs away. He has mysterious marks all over his body. We are 99% sure that he was abused from how he interacts with people - especially with men with hats on.

Friends came over for the Superbowl, and it was so sad to watch him as he started cowarding. He had to watch Tatum's reaction to see what would happen to him. He started opening up a little more after ten or more minutes. Poor little pup is so traumatized from his past. It makes me so sad to know that someone could beat him. He can't enjoy his life fully when he sees a person and wants to run for cover.

Nobody really wants to give him a chance when it comes to adopting him because he doesn't come running to them. He takes a while, and people aren't patient enough.

But we love our little Tobs. We don't know what exactly happened in his past, but he shows us every day how thankful he is to be with us. To love an abused dog means you will get ever lasting love. He is more than welcome to stay in our house however long he needs until we can find a patient, understanding forever home that's full of love for him.

BLT Bites

Before we had our Superbowl party, I scooped out Pinterest. Trav laughed at me and said, "You have all these recipes but you haven't made anything?" So he had to be proven wrong.

These little things are incredible. I got so many compliments on them and by the end of the party, there was none left (and I made two plates of them!).

BLT Bites
recipe from The Taste of Home

Ingredients

  • 16 to 20 cherry tomatoes
  • 1 pound sliced bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/3 cup chopped green onions (I wouldn't use this much green onion though)
  • 3 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons snipped fresh parsley

Directions:

  • Cut a thin slice off of each tomato top. Scoop out and discard pulp. Invert the tomatoes on a paper towel to drain.
  • In a small bowl, combine the remaining ingredients. Spoon into tomatoes. Refrigerate for several hours. Yield: 16-20 appetizer servings.

Cheesecake Stuffed Strawberries

Cheesecake Stuffed Strawberries

from The Sweets Life

Ingredients:
1 lb large strawberries
8 oz. cream cheese, softened (can use 1/3 less fat)
3-4 tbsp powdered sugar (4 tbsp for a sweeter filling)
1 tsp vanilla extract
Graham cracker crumbs

Directions:
1. Rinse strawberries and cut around the top of the strawberry. Remove the top and clean out with a paring knife, if necessary (some may already be hollow inside). Prep all strawberries and set aside.
2. In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until creamy. Add cream cheese mix to a piping bag or ziploc with the corner snipped off. Fill strawberries with cheesecake mixture. Once strawberries are filled, dip the top in graham cracker crumbs. If not serving immediately, refrigerate until serving.

Fruit Dip

This Fruit Dip actually made me like strawberries! It was something I tried that my cousin's wife mom made. It is incredible.

However, I can't really give you the exact amounts. But I'll let you know that I used. I made a lot, because I kind of messed up on it. LOL. (Forgive me, it was the first time I made it), but this is how it should be made:

Ingredients
Package of cream cheese
Container of Marshmallow Fluff
Strawberry Gelatin
Pinch of powered sugar

Directions
1.) Soften cream cheese.
2.) With a mixer, mix together the container of Marshmallow Fluff, a tiny bit of strawberry Gelatin (to taste). Then add a pinch of strawberry sugar.
3.) Yummmmmm :)

Puppy Chow

Recipe from: Doreen

Who knew Puppy Chow could be so addicting? This recipe was given to me from one of my "second mom's". She actually makes it every time I come home to visit. That's love!

Ingredients:
1/2 stick butter
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 cup chocolate chips
1/4 tsp. vanilla
9 cups Crispix (recommend to use this because it's the best)
2 cups confectioners sugar (but Trav and I use a lot more!)

Directions:
1.) Melt butter peanut butter, chocolate chips and vanilla in large pot.

2.) Add Crispex. After all is mixed throughly, add Confectioner's Sugar (as much as you'd like). Shake thoroughly.

3.) Enjoy.

Super Bowl Party

Our day began at 7:30 in the morning, where Trav started his smoker. We were non-stop the entire day from cooking to cleaning. As guests started showing up, I put them to work (so evil, right?) and then all of a sudden.

The oven started on fire!

So it wasn't a big fire, but it was enough to cause a little stir. Trav, seen here, tried to clean it up.

He actually wanted to give you girls a plumber crack while he was at it, but I decided that wasn't going to happen (even though he does have a cute butt). Anyways, the guy who tries to fix everything.. sad to say, it didn't work. It actually started on fire a couple other times. LOL. So today I am cleaning it (hence all the blog posts) as I try not to suffocate in this smoke.

However, besides the fire(s), we had a great time and got to see some great friends. :)

I can't talk to you enough about the food. Trav and I are so proud of our selves knowing that we were able to put all of this together! I hope you guys are in dire need of recipes because they're going to be comin' at 'ya!

Horse Racing

We were finally able to use the Living Social deal for Trav's late birthday. It was a VIP to Turf Paradise and oh my goodness it was so.much.fun!!!!! :) We got $25 worth of food (we both got breakfast, had potato soup for lunch, and shared a brownie), got a free bottle of wine, got VIP seats in the club house, enjoyed valet parking and got $5 worth towards the gift shop.

So we didn't win thousands like we wanted to, but this is way better than gambling where your money disappears in literally five minutes. You need to do it :)
